Am I hearing this right? Members of Canadian Parliament are condemning the actions of Team Canada?
Bloc Quebecois MP Luc Malo called out Hockey Canada chief Bob Nicholson and said that Shane Doan should not have been appointed captain of Team Canada at the World Hockey Championships, which are taking place right now in Russia.
When in the world did no-namer politicains get to make decisions like that? Is there no other issues in Canada for Malo to worry about? Apparently, Malo says that Doan was involved in a controversy a couple years back, where he made a comment toward an NHL referee, calling him a ‘F—ing Frenchman’. The NHL has cleared the case and there is no proof that Doan said those words. Nicholson stated that it was not Doan who uttered it but it was another Phoenix Coyotes player. However, Malo still pinpoints Doan and says he should not be named captain because of the allegations.
In the words of Wayne Gretzky, “that’s a crock of crap”.
First off, Doan was never proven to have said that racist comment. Second, the incident is done with and shouldn’t even have been brought up again. And thirdly, doesn’t this seem like another ploy of the Bloc to try and split up Quebec from Canada even more? Way to stir up controversy.
Sure, the Federal Government provides $3 million of $53 million to Team Canada’s fund, but that doesn’t mean they should have the authority to undermine Canada’s hockey decisions. Hey Malo, taxpayers fund your ass, and we don’t want you to be PM, so step down. See, same logic.
Good for the Conservatives to stay back and watch other parties shoot themselves in the foot. If the Bloc Quebecois are going to sully Doan’s character as an oppurtunity to gain votes, then they have strengthen the grotesque stereotype of politicians. Way to give Canadians another reason to bash the government.
Here’s an idea, Mr. Malo. Do your job, and let Team Canada do theirs. We don’t need anymore politic bullcrap in this great game of ours.

This is just one more example in this country of the “tail wagging the dog”. I am so sick and tired of all this petty crap that our politicians get involved in.Instead of looking at the environment, gas prices, health etc we have to have a committee look at a two year old allegation that was unfounded regarding Shane Doan.
The linesman concerned must have been shattered at the comment and, never having been called a bad name in my entire 64 years, I feel sorry for him.
A dollar to a donut says our politicians will next hire special police to patrol our school grounds and discipline our 5 year olds for calling each other names……..DUH !!!!!

Who cares? It’s not like this is actually going to do anything to really affect anything. They aren’t going to take his C away because some politician said so. The media is blowing this up into a big deal, when it should have just been laughed off.
Did Shane Doan call a player a f–king frenchman? Probably, that doesn’t make him a rascist. Ruutu kissed another player on the lips, that doesn’t make him gay.
Go Shane Doan, go Canada. (I see he got a hatty against Belarus. F–king Belarus)
